UK Golden Visa – new shaped Investor program

Both the Home Office and the Foreign Office are in deep conversations about introducing the new re-formed Investor Visa – also referred as the UK Golden Visa.

Since its closure for new applicants on the 17th February 2022 – there has been a number of debates including one at the House of Lords – in respect to the report findings. The UK Government has never made it public about the committee’s findings and would appear there was some level of abuse in this visa program.

The concept of the investor visa was designed for high-net-worth individuals making a substantial financial investment in the UK.

As an investor in the UK, there was no requirements to meet the English language nor the financial requirements and this was a route to settlement – depending on the level of fundings. It also permitted the investor to bring their families to the UK.

The investor visa required an investment of more than £2 million pounds in the UK. Those holding the investor visa are required to apply for indefinite leave to remain before the 17th February 2028.

The idea now is to do invite-only investment program, with those looking to invest more than £5 million pounds. Other countries including some in the European Union – offer the Golden Visa programs.

It is likely that the scheme similar to what was set out on the Global Talent program, whereby an application is made for consideration in endorsement, is going to be how a high-value visa program will be decided. We shall wait on the changes to be announced, hoping to happen post the PM change on the 20th July 2026 and possible introduction around 2027.
